Salted Caramel

This shake was available in both a dairy and vegan version, but I figured I’d try the vegan version since I’d not tried a vegan shake before. If you’d given it to me and not told me it was vegan I would almost certainly not have guessed it.

Tastes quite strongly of salted caramel and has fairly good texture. Maybe not quite as creamy as I’d ideally like (which is where I would usually expect vegan options to fall short) but I’ve certainly had much less creamy dairy shakes in the past so actually it’s doing pretty well on that front.

I opted for the addition of spiced rum because that’s a fairly rare offer as far as milkshake options go in my experience. Turns out, the rum is definitely a good pairing. The spicy, alcohol-iness of it carries the aftertaste and blends with the caramel so the taste morphs from that of a regular salted caramel shake to that of a regular spiced rum with a complete gradient in between. All in the time span of a single mouthful.

Despite my initial doubts, the straw was surprisingly steadfast in the face of unrelenting moisture from the shake itself. Despite being made of paper it wasn’t soggy at all.
